Stephen Morris, a professional musician, was distraught when he realised he'd left the instrument on a London to Orpington service last month.

But after the British Transport Police released a CCTV image of the man believed to have taken it, Mr Morris got a private message on Twitter saying “I recognise the person in the picture. I think it may be somebody I know.”

It’s thought the sender was actually the man officers were looking for. On Friday, a handover operation was arranged with plain-clothes police on standby, just in case.

Mr Morris, who’s played on film scores including The Lord of the Rings and James Bond and recorded with David Bowie and Stevie Wonder, says the violin is both intact and “in tune”.

莫里斯先生演奏過包括《指環(huán)王》、詹姆斯·邦德（“007”系列）等電影的配樂，還曾與大衛(wèi)·鮑威、史提夫·汪達(dá)合作錄制唱片。他說小提琴完好無缺，而且“音準(zhǔn)無誤”。
