Ouch. What did you do that for?

No, no, no – I mean ‘it beats me’. Ouch!

I said 'it beats me' to mean I don't know or I don't understand something.

原來在英語里，人們用“it beats me”來表示對某事“不理解，不明白”。其實(shí)我知道這個表達(dá)的意思，Rob。I just liked hitting you with this stick!

A: Can you believe that Dave and Andrea are still married? He's always bossing her around.

It beats me how Jen can afford a new sports car when she only works part-time.

“It beats me”的意思就是“我不明白，我不理解”，就好比它的字面意思“一件事情把我給打倒了”，所以我不明白。

So now I can safely say, it beats me what's going on in the office – I haven't got a clue.

Mice, ah yes. Well, in that case, it could be that I left my lunch on my desk overnight and it's possible the mice have found it and eaten it? They do get everywhere.
